There is a rich history of Feni Sadar upazila. It is believed that before 1000 to 1400 AD, the human settlement developed in this area first. In the ancient times, this region was included in the Samatata kingdom. In 1876 the then British government established the Feni subdivision for administrative convenience. Feni Sadar Upazila was an affiliate of the Feni sub-division and the Feni subdivision was earlier included in Noakhali district. In 1972 Feni municipal meeting was established in this upazila. Later, Feni district was established in 1984. Two / three types of history of Feni district / upazila are available. According to some others, this area was named after the name of the ruler of the area, who was entrusted to the governor of this area, who was the landowner of King Birat of Pundra Vardhana. According to some others, the lower area of Feni was covered by a lot of kachari pana (known as Pana, with a legally known). Can be named from Pena and this area. Once again, the area was home to Snake. People used to plant lots of fishes in the forest to get rid of the snake. From this and the name of this district / upazila may be named. It may be named after the Feni River (which has run over the Feni district at a speeding speed like a snake) and may be named after Feni district / upazila.
